Foundation for Growth featured at Falmouth forum
FALMOUTH, Nov. 12, 2010 --- In a forum focused on housing and the Cape's economic future, MHP's Clark Ziegler and Michael Goodman of UMass Dartmouth discussed why housing is a key ingredient in a region's economic growth. Their presentation was based on MHP's Foundation for Growth Initiative, which is working to make proposals that will allow the state greater ability to build the housing it needs to grow its economy. -

Study finds housing a precursor to growth
BOSTON, Dec. 30, 2008 --- In a forerunner to the Foundation for Growth Initiative, the Massachusetts Housing Partnership commissioned a study that found that the three most important factors in determining metro area employment growth are how much housing the region builds, its success in attracting new residents, and the extent to which it is dependent on manufacturing employment.

Land consumption for housing up, 1 acre lots the norm
BOSTON, Jan. 30, 2006 --- In another MHP-commissioned study that laid the groundwork for the Foundation for Growth initiative, the MIT Center for Real Estate found that between 1998 and 2002, new single-family home construction in the greater Boston metropolitan area consumed about twice as much land as existing single-family housing, and half of the region’s 30,387 recent new single-family homes were built on lots of nearly an acre or larger. -

Smart zoning could save land, lower home prices
BOSTON, Nov. 9, 2005 --- In one of three studies commissioned by MHP that led to the Foundation for Growth initiative, economist Ed Moscovitch calculated that home prices and land consumption in Massachusetts could be reduced if the state were to adopt smart growthing zoning practices.
